Theme for 2026
Our theme for the 2026 challenge is community oriented. Creators are tasked to create an app to address a problem in their community.

Rules + Eligibility
Main Rules
- AI use is permitted as long as you clearly and accurately explain your work and demonstrate a deep understanding of what you created.
- You may use any coding software or engine you prefer.
- Video submissions must be no longer than 4 minutes.
- To be competitive, your video must include examples of your code.
- Each project must be completed by an individual or a team of no more than 3 people.
- Uploading code is not required, but you may store a code repository if you choose.
- Rhody Appathon does not own, retain, or claim any rights to your codebase or intellectual property.
Eligibility
- Participants must be in grades 8–12.
- Participants must be 13 years or older.
- All applicants must be Rhode Island Residents.

Appathon Duration
The appathon will be open for 10 weeks, during which participants can develop, refine, and submit their finished app.
Prize Clarification
There is no monetary prize for this competition. However, winners will receive a certificate of achievement and their app will be featured on our website.
